How to Write Blog Posts Your Audience Actually Want to Read

Small business owners, let’s get one thing straight: blogging is the tits. Not only does it show off your hard-earned expertise, but it also boosts your website’s search engine ranking, making you infinitely more searchable to potential new customers. Sounds like a win-win, right?

But if blogging is so awesome, why do so few small business owners actually do it?

Simple. Most have no idea what to write about or where to start. They sit listlessly at their open laptops staring at that daunting blank page, feeling the pressure to be brilliant, and then… nothing. All out writer’s block.

Luckily, I’ve got a little tip that has saved me HOURS of blog brainstorming, and I’m about to share it with you. Ready? Let’s go!

Step 1: Dig Through Your existing Social Media Goldmine

First things first—head over the social media platform you use the most - this could be Instagram, or Linkedin, or even Facebook. From your account you’re going to head to your social media analytics. Scroll through your recent posts (usually 90 days is a good timeframe) and find the one that got the most reach and/or engagement (depending on platform). That’s the post that people loved, shared, and engaged with the most on that platform - and the post that was shown to the most people. It’s already a smash hit with your audience, and guess what? It’s about to become the star of your next blog post.

Step 2: Expand the Content of that high performance post into a Blog

Now that you’ve searched through your analytics and found your golden post, it’s time to expand on it. Take the main idea that you covered on social media and dive deeper. If your original post was a quick tip or a fun fact, now’s the time to flesh it out and provide even more detail and value for your audience. Add examples, tell stories, share insights—whatever it takes to give your audience more of what they clearly already love. A great blog post should be a good deal longer and more in-depth than a Facebook post, but remember to keep it valuable!

Step 3: Use Comments and Questions as Blog growth fuel

Here’s where this blogging technique gets really good. Check out the comments and questions people left on your original post (and there should be some - that’s why we dug through our analytics after all), those right there are pure blogging gold. If someone asked a question, answer it in your blog. If a comment sparked a discussion, delve into that. You already have the insight into exactly what your audience want to know about this topic - totally invaluable! This is your chance to engage with your audience on a deeper level by addressing the thoughts and curiosities that were shared with you.

Step 4: be sure to Sprinkle Industry Keywords throughout the blog post

Finally, before you hit that ‘publish’ button, don’t forget to weave in some industry-specific keywords throughout your blog post. This not only makes your content extra searchable but also helps boost your SEO game. You can get details on great search terms to scatter throughout your blog posts using tools like Google Adwords or Answerthepublic. The more relevant your blog is to what people are searching for, the better!

Why This blogging tip Works Like Magic

The beauty of this method is that you’re essentially pre-validating your blog content and only writing blogs about topics that you know for a fact have already resonated with your audience. The post you chose already got a lot of reach and engagement, which means people care about the topic. This makes it a fantastic candidate for a high-converting blog post.

The most beautiful part of this process? You can Rinse and Repeat for blissfully simple Blogging

And there you have it! Repeat this process weekly, monthly, or however often you want for reverse-engineered, easy-peasy blog content. No more staring at a blank page wondering what to write about. Now, you’ve got a system that’s proven to deliver content your audience actually wants to read. So, what are you waiting for? Get blogging!
